Liriope, commonly known as monkey grass or lily turf, is one of the most common plants used in landscaping, particularly as ground cover. Two of the most popular Liriope varieties are L. muscari which is a clumping plant, and L. spicata which is a creeping variety. It is characterized by its spiky leaves, which are often mistaken for mondo grass because of their similar-looking leaves. Another distinct characteristic of monkey grass is the purple color of its flowers.
